Haiti '09 -- Young Adult Mission Trip

Some call it Cinco de Mayo, we call it $5 on 5/5 for our Haiti Mission Trip. Hey, Mexico and Haiti would share a border if all that water wasn't in the way! Our team goal relies on getting as many people as possible, including YOU, to give $5 on just one day-- 5/5.

This is a great way for you to be part of something more than yourself by giving only a little (of course if you want to give a lot, we can't fault you for that either). You can donate now online or mail a check to the address listed below. Be sure to put Haiti Trip '09 and the team member name you are supporting in the memo line.

The idea for this $5 on 5/5 campaign came from realizing that if everyone's Facebook and MySpace friends gave just $5 we could raise almost enough to get the whole team to Haiti. And we all have more contacts besides our 'friends' on those services! And we know you can afford $5 to support a team working in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

1. What are the dates?
Sunday, July 26th - Saturday, August 1st.
2. How much does it cost?
At this point we are approximating $1400.
3. Do I have to pay for it all myself?
No. We encourage you to support raise and we will be working on group fundraising projects. Letting others give allows for many more people to join in the mission of God than just those able to physically go on the trip.
4. Who are we working with?
Hosean International Ministries (HIM) -- hosean.org. Irving Bible Church partners with this ministry and the leader, Caleb Lucien, a Haitian national and graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary.
5. What will we do in Haiti?
HIM has several different projects, but most likely we will be working with teenagers and working on various service projects in the area.
6. Why Haiti?
The goal for this specific trip was to find a place that was close enough for a week-long trip and 'far' enough away to get us Americans out of our comfort zone. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, a majority of nationals practice voodoo and it has been hard hit recently by hurricanes. With Irving Bible's partnership already with HIM the fit seemed great.
